Morning rendering

This morning I found an open blog on improvisation.  The conversations are thoughtful and detailed, and offer nice insights on the nature of improvisation.  One that sticks with me is that improvisation is something that happens in the practice.  We practice improvisation, but the practice is not improvisation, but true improvisation happens inside of the practice.   I'll try and wrap around that.

  1. that is a really lovely idea -although why is the practice of improvisation not improvisation? because the practice takes place at a specified place and time? because it's "intentional"? improvisation fits inside of those things too.

lovely to see you improving! check out my recent thoughts on my own practice: http://blog.esthermpalmer.com/labels/openstudio

  2. e m p- It took me a while to get what they meant by the practice of improvisation and improvisation. It seems like they are saying that improvisation is something separate from the practice. It is a sacred thing that exists within the context of the practice, but sometimes the practice excludes those moments of clarity, which we call true improvisation. My thoughts right now on this are that isolating practice and improvisation makes it too sacred. For me, I need room to be within the practice, and let it not be too precious. Good to talk to you!
